Climate Smart Commodity Project

The Climate Smart Commodity Project (CSCP) is a new program that provides technical and financial assistance to farmers in the Hudson Valley. This program promotes the adaptation of climate-smart conservation practices by farmers producing specialty crops and pasture-based livestock products for local and regional markets. This 5-year project is part of a national partnership led by The Soil Inventory Project (TSIP), in partnership with the USDA, who will provide soil sequestration testing, a vital sign of a healthy farm.

The application for 2025 will be open from January 29th until February 14th.

Attend our informational webinar on January 29th, at 6pm!

The Glynwood Center is offering a new program that provides technical and financial assistance to farmers in the Hudson Valley. This program promotes the adaptation of climate-smart conservation practices by farmers producing specialty crops and pasture-based livestock products for local and regional markets. Farmers identifying as BIPOC, LGBTQIA2S+, women farmers, and immigrant and refugee farmers are especially encouraged to apply.

Our team will help you pick which climate-smart activities best suit your farm’s needs and how to successfully apply for funding. This 5-year project is part of a national partnership led by The Soil Inventory Project (TSIP), in partnership with the USDA, who will provide soil sequestration testing, a vital sign of a healthy farm. Practices provided enhance farm and community climate resilience by promoting water and air quality, restoring pollinator and wildlife habitat, and increasing farm viability.

Funding is based on NY NRCS per acre EQIP conservation incentive rates. This program guarantees free technical assistance, conservation planning and implementation assistance, and soil carbon testing by TSIP. Farmers must currently have or be willing to establish Farm Service Administration (FSA) farm, tract and field numbers. Farms must also submit an NRCS Subsidiary Print.

Glynwood Center will assist with additional documentation including:

  • AD 2047 (Customer Data Worksheet to collect customer data for Business Partner Record)
  • AD 1026 (Certify Highly Erodible Land conservation (HEL) & Wetland Conservation (WC) compliance)
  • Certify that Farm is not a foreign person or entity

The CSCP is promoting the following 11 Climate Smart practices. We will tailor a specific plan for each farm, and are open to finding out what makes the most sense for each specific acreage, climate, and operation. NRCS Practices highlighted are: Cover Crop, Reduced/No Till, Nutrient Mgmt, Prescribed Grazing, Mulching, Tree Establishment, Pasture & Hay, Windbreak & Shelterbelts, Silvopasture, and Riparian Forest Buffer.
