As New York’s largest nonprofit nature preserve, Mohonk Preserve protects and manages over 8,000 acres and welcomes over 150,000 visitors to these lands every year. The Preserve’s devoted volunteers, dedicated donors, and expert staff all work in harmony for a common cause—to create a place where people and nature thrive. To accomplish their goal of protecting one of the region’s most treasured and beautiful places, the Preserve conducts programs in four key areas—environmental education, land protection, land stewardship and conservation science.
Mohonk Preserve is Glynwood’s neighbor, owning 534 acres of the 857-acre Mohonk Preserve Foothills upon which the 300-acre Hudson Valley Farm Business Incubator is located. Mohonk Preserve and Glynwood work closely as joint stewards of the Incubator site in the Mohonk Preserve Foothills.
Open Space Institute
The Open Space Institute protects scenic, natural and historic landscapes to provide public enjoyment, conserve habitat and sustain communities. OSI has protected more than 116,000 acres in New York State. Through its Northern Forest Protection Fund and Conservation Capital program, OSI has assisted in the protection of an additional 2.2 million acres from Quebec to Georgia.
The Open Space Institute and Glynwood collaborate on the Incubator program with a shared goal to bring conserved land into production. We envision that graduates of our program, with viable farm businesses, will be appropriate farmers of properties conserved by OSI. The potential availability of that land will help to overcome the challenges of land access faced by new farmers.
