Guided by the highest standards of ecosystem, soil, animal and community well-being, Glynwood is a teaching venue for aspiring farmers and a testbed for regenerative agricultural practices.
Each year, we welcome six apprentices to our farm in Cold Spring, New York – three vegetable (8 months) and three livestock (10 months). In addition to hands-on experience, including formal training in the safe operation of farm machinery, our apprentices complete a comprehensive classroom curriculum geared toward farm management. A private room in-residence at Glynwood, a weekly stipend and workers compensation insurance are all provided.
Our Farm Business Incubator provides a stepping stone for farmers ready to build their own agricultural enterprises. We offer technical assistance, mentoring and advanced practical skills workshops for new farm businesses, in addition to low-cost land, equipment, infrastructure and housing at our leased property in New Paltz, NY. Our program has recently been augmented to include off-site farm businesses who benefit from the same technical support provided to on-site participants, tailored to their specific needs.
As part of their training, our apprentices help grow the food we sell to our CSA members, at our farm store and through our online market. Our vegetables are USDA Certified Organic, the diets of our layers, meat birds and pigs are supplemented with non-GMO feed, and our cattle are strictly grass-fed and grass-finished. We are Animal Welfare Approved (AWA) for the rearing of our cattle, sheep, goats, pigs and layer hens. Subsidized CSA shares are available through our local food pantry and we accept SNAP.
