Community Events: June

You can feel it in your heart, you can see it in the ground. You can see it in the trees, you can smell it in the breeze. Look around! Look around! Look around!

To quote Rodgers and Hammerstein, June is busting out all over. So much is happening this month. It’s not just when we open our farm store, to coincide with our first CSA pick-ups of the season, but we’ve added new ways to have fun at Glynwood while meeting our staff and farm crew and learning more about sustainable agriculture.

New this year are Backyard Family Fun Workshops, which are hands-on learning experiences for parents and kids that include a guided tour of the farm, and Picnic Days, quite simply just an opportunity to bring your lunch and relax. Also new are Food & Farm Explorations, weekend workshops for adults and older kids. Dirt Days are every third Saturday, June through September, when volunteers are welcome to assist our vegetable crew during the busy season.

This is all in addition to our Signature Farm Tours and Family Farm Tours.

Events at Glynwood

Picnic Day
June 10 | 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm

Designated times to picnic in our orchard, free of charge. Bring your basket, blanket and friends; we’ll provide tables, bathrooms, zero-waste disposal and, of course, the scenery. Please note, Glynwood’s orchards are historic, not functional. We are not a fruit farm, and do not offer pick-your-own. Our Farm Store is open on Saturdays from 9am-1pm, where you can purchase additional snacks and pick up a self-guided tour map.

Backyard Family Farm Skills
June 1 | 3:45 pm – 5:30 pm

It’s planting season. It’s also a good time of year to think about living more sustainably and creating less garbage. Visit our pigs and horses, feed them leftovers and make a “worm cake” (for worms not people!). Take home a compost terrarium made from recycled containers.

Tending Tomatoes: Food & Farm Exploration
June 24 | 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm

Back by popular demand! Participants will benefit from the expertise of our vegetable production manager Jarret Nelson, who manages Glynwood’s vegetable operation and CSA program, and trains our vegetable apprentices. Whether you are an avid home gardener or a complete novice, our workshop is suitable as a guide through tomato production in the Hudson Valley from start to finish.
