Instructors: Tatiana Stanton, Cornell Cooperative Extension; Jason Detzel, Cornell Cooperative Extension Ulster County; Donald Arrant, Glynwood

The small ruminant school will introduce participants to small ruminant care, including nutritional needs, general health guidelines, lambing and kidding practices and pasture management instruction. Optional breakout sessions at 3:30pm will feature ‘five-point check’/body scoring, tubing and intraperitoneal (IP) injections, hay evaluation, and birthing stations.

Meet in the Glynwood workshop, by the Main House. Lunch provided.

Dr. Tatiana Luisa Stanton is the Small Ruminant Extension Specialist for the Dept. of Animal Science, Cornell Sheep & Goat Program. She is the primary organizer of the Cornell Goat Program.  http://blogs.cornell.edu/goats/

Jason Detzel is the Cornell Cooperative Extension’s Ulster County Livestock Resources Educator. His experiences range from internships and apprenticeships around the globe to the intense learning curve of being the sole operator of a diversified farm in Columbia County. He is looking forward to increasing awareness of progressive livestock management systems and resources in the Hudson Valley.
